Troubleshooting policy · Mickleham
Start with the symptoms, not a parts list.
Tell us what your computer is doing. We can explain the next sensible step and the difference between a free booking, standard troubleshooting and paid work.

A free appointment is a drop-off time.
There is no standard drop-off booking fee. The appointment is for leaving the device, not a promise of a free repair or an assessment while you wait.
Standard troubleshooting comes first.
Ask Computer Barn about eligibility for standard troubleshooting without charge. The aim is to understand the reported fault and advise on a practical next step. What can reasonably be checked depends on the device and problem; eligibility and any chargeable work are discussed before proceeding.
If the fault needs more involved diagnosis, specialist testing, disassembly or additional work that carries a charge, we will discuss the proposed scope and cost before you approve it. Parts and repairs are not included merely because troubleshooting is free.
You decide about proposed paid work.
We explain the findings, recommended work and quoted costs. Further faults or changed requirements may need a revised quote. Booking, leaving a device or acknowledging the repair notice does not by itself approve every future repair or expense.
Timing and limits
Assessment follows workshop availability and the queue unless a different arrangement has been agreed. Intermittent faults may take time to reproduce, and not every fault can be identified or economically repaired.
Tell us if data recovery is your main concern before testing starts. Back up where possible; repair may cause data loss.
Read and keep the repair noticeIf you decide not to proceed
We will explain any charge you previously agreed to and arrange collection. There is no automatic approval to order parts or continue paid work simply because the device is at the workshop.
